Recently in iScience, Hodnik et al. provide compelling evidence that the standard top-down investigation of electrocatalyst stability fails to provide the fundamental understanding of nanoparticle structure-stability relationships. Instead, the authors provide a new bottom-up strategy, allowing researchers to study the structural evolution of individual nanoparticles and a deep link to their structure-stability properties.en
